We are the lucky ones that get to call Santa and Mrs. Claus, our clients!
This one is best told by Mrs. Claus herself:
“We have been professional Santa and Mrs. Claus for 11 years now. Santa is a Vietnam Special Forces vet so he has a special place in his heart for the young boys and girls who protect us all.
He had the honor of going to Iraq a few years ago to see the troops in his custom made ACU (camo) Santa suit. I also have one. It was a magical trip for him that he will always remember. We had done many events for the USO and VA hospitals over the years.
This all began one year when we decorated our Jeep Sahara, put the top down and went to McAdenville NC, a small town nearby that turns into Christmas Town USA each year.
Hundreds ride through and enjoy the lights. But at that time Santa’s beard was black, so he asked the Elves to create the “real” Santa look. They came up with a really curly long white beard and Santa outfit. Then we all realized that Rudolph should be the one driving the Jeep – so I put on a reindeer outfit complete with a studded collar that lit up, antlers and a big red nose (hard to drive and see around THAT).
We rode through town, waving and having such fun. We were about to turn around and go back through town when a timid man holding a little boy approached the Jeep. He said his son had always been afraid of Santa and had never visited with one, but when he saw Santa in a Jeep just like his uncles, he knew he was looking at the REAL Santa.
Santa and the little boy visited and then the little boy reached out his tiny arms for a hug. As they hugged him the little boy whispered “I love you and now I’m not afraid.” They say words have much power – this was Santa’s defining moment and right then he committed to be available for boys and girls of all ages all year long.
It didn’t take long for his beard to turn white and then I decided I should be myself, Mrs. Claus. Wherever we go I carry our cat Blizzard (a puppet) only because he agreed not to talk while visiting since he speaks Human at the North Pole and it would hurt cat’s feelings everywhere. So Blizzard moves his head and many times helps timid children come see Santa. Later he shares the latest news about the children to all the Elves while we have a Cookie and Cocoa break at the Workshop.
We feel we were called to do this work and will continue for as long as we can. What better job is there than spreading Joy, Happiness and Love to children of all ages!
Have a wonderful holiday this year….at the North Pole we always say Merry Christmas!”
