Which insurance companies have the best Medicare supplement plans? Which carriers get the best Medicare supplement reviews in general? Who has the best Medigap Plan F reviews?
In this post, I will tell you.
Are you like me? Do you devour consumer reviews before finally deciding on a product or service to buy? If so, when it’s time to enroll in a Medigap plan, it’s only natural to look for reviews of the best Medicare supplement plans online.
We know that Plan F has the most coverage of any Medicare supplement plan. We know also that Plan G is a close second So, most likely you are looking for Medicare Plan F reviews or Plan G reviews that will tell you how comprehensive the coverage is and how often the carrier pays on time. Perhaps you want reviews on how many hassles at doctor’s offices you are going to run into or things like that.
How do various Medicare supplement companies score on those things? Let me give you my own personal opinion on how they score:
My Medicare Plan F Reviews for Popular Insurance Companies:
- Blue Cross Blue Shield Medicare Supplement Plan F: A+
- Aetna Medicare Supplement Plan F: A+
- American Retirement Life Insurance Medicare Plan F: A+
- Anthem Medicare Supplement Plan F: A+
- Cigna Medicare Supplement: A+
- Oxford Medicare Supplement: A+
- Manhattan Life Medicare Supplement: A+
- Mutual of Omaha Medicare Supplement: A+
- Banker’s Life Medicare Supplement: A+
- Gerber Medicare Supplement: A+
- United Healthcare Medicare Supplement A+
- United American Medicare Supplement A+
- United World Medicare Supplement A+
- ANY OTHER insurance company’s Medicare Plan F: A+
Wow. Now, how is it possible that I vote to give them all my personal thumbs-up A+??
Best Medicare Supplement Plans on Benefits
I give them all an A+ because Medicare supplements are standardized by the federal government. That means if you buy a Plan F, no matter which company you choose, the benefits are exactly the same. The same goes for Plan G and Plan N and all the others. The benefits are standardized and the carrier cannot change them.
When Medicare pays its share of a bill, it sends the remainder on to your Medicare supplement company to pay the rest. The Medicare supplement company does NOT get to decide which benefits they will honor and which benefits they won’t.
So on the question of who has the best Medicare supplement plans for benefits – they all get an A+.
Okay great, so we now know the benefits and coverage is awesome with ALL Medigap plans offered by various companies out there. But what about paying your claims on-time….who gets the best Medicare supplement reviews on that?
Best Medicare Supplement Plans on Claims Payment
I give them all an A+ on claims payment too.
In my experience, all Medicare supplement plans pay on time. None of them will deny any bill that Medicare has already approved. They will pay promptly because Medicare passes the claim on to your supplement company after Medicare pays its share.
The supplement company cannot pick and choose which claims to pay. If Medicare covers its share, then your supplement will as well.
At Boomer Benefits, we’ve helped thousands of clients with this plan from dozens of insurance carriers over the years. In all of those years, I can count on ONE hand the number of times we have ever experienced a payment issue with any Medigap insurance policy, with several fingers to spare.
Now, take note, the excellent track record on claims payment is VERY DIFFERENT for Medicare Advantage plans. Please note that some companies like Aetna, Humana, Cigna, United Healthcare and BCBS all offer both Medigap plans and Medicare Advantage plans. The reviews for Advantage plans are often much different from Medicare supplement company ratings. So if you read a review out there that says one of these carriers has been sanctioned by Medicare, that is referring to the completely separate Medicare Advantage division.
You can read my Forbes article about hidden costs inside Medicare Advantage plans here.
I can assure you that the Medigap plans that the same company sells will have an excellent payment record. If you feel unsure because you read a bad review, give us a call here and we can give you the real scoop.
Best Medicare Supplement Plans for Access to Your Doctors
Access to physicians is also easy with Medigap because Medicare itself is your network. Doctors that take Original Medicare don’t care which Medicare supplement you are enrolled in. Medicare is the primary payer and pays its share of your benefits, and then sends the rest on to your secondary payer (your supplement company) to pay the rest.
So which one is the best Medicare supplement for choice of doctors? Once again, all of them.
You won’t ask your doctor if he takes United Healthcare Medicare supplement or Blue Cross Blue Shield Medicare supplement. You will ask: “Do you take Original Medicare?” If the doctor says yes, you can use your supplement insurance at his office with no fear.
In ten years of working with these plans, I have never, ever had a doctor turn away a Medicare patient because he doesn’t recognize the name of your supplement carrier. Even if he tried, you would place a quick call right here to Boomer Benefits from your doctor’s office. We can clear up any confusion from an uneducated doctor office worker in seconds.
Factors in Choosing the Best Medicare Supplement Plans
So if the benefits, claims payment record and doctor access are great with all Medicare Supplement companies, how do you pick the right one? Well, I’d begin to look at other factors that are important to YOU.
Many of our clients care about stability. How long has the carrier been in business? How long have they been offering Medicare Supplements?
There are dozens of very stable companies in the Medicare supplement market. For example, Aetna Medicare Supplements are one of the best Medicare supplemental plans for a client who cares most about stability. Aetna has been around since 1850, and our agency is a top producer for Aetna Medigap insurance because of it. We know it makes people feel safe. You can read our Medicare supplement reviews for Aetna here.
Maybe you are a person who has had Blue Cross Blue Shield insurance through an employer in the past. If you had a good experience and feel solid about BCBS, then they are a great choice too. We’ve had thousands insured with them with no problems and many consider them of one of the best Medicare supplement plans on the market.
However, we’ve had just as many insured with United Healthcare Medigap, Aetna Medigap, Cigna Medigap and 30 other carriers that I could list.
What I’m saying is this: Peace of mind does factor into these choices. If you trust one company over another for reasons like these, go for it. Because you can’t really go wrong with Medicare supplement plans.
However, I could insert the names of 20 other best Medicare supplement plan carriers in these examples. It makes no difference. If you like the company and it offers Plan F or any other Medigap plan, you’ll be in great hands.
When you are enrolling in your Medicare supplement is important. If you are enrolling during your one-time Medicare supplement open enrollment period, then you don’t have to answer health questions. Pretty much any plan or carrier is fair game. However, if you are past your six-month open enrollment window, you’ll need to answer health questions in most states. Different companies have different health questions, so we’ll want to choose the one where you have the best chance of being approved.
At Boomer Benefits, we walk our clients through these questions ahead of time to determine your options.
A few states have laws which affect your enrollment options. For example, in California or Oregon, there is a birthday rule which lets you enroll with a Medigap carrier without any health questions during your birthday month each year. This rule only applies if you are already enrolled in a Medicare supplement though. You can’t use it go from a Medicare Advantage plan to a Medicare supplement.
Our team takes these rules into account when determining which companies have the best Medicare supplements plans for you. It may be that you can get into the lowest priced plan with no hassle because of a state law.
Best Medicare Supplement Plans on Rates
Now I hope I have eliminated the issues of benefits, claim payment and doctor access from factoring into your decision. We’ve also learned the important factors for choosing coverage. This makes the plan selection process much easier, and it’s time to get quotes.
Who are the top 10 best supplemental insurance companies?
Here’s a tip: It’s the ones with the lowest current rates AND the lowest rate increase histories. Then select one of the dozens of A or B+ rated carriers.
If you are working with Boomer Benefits, we can run this report for you in less than one minute. You’ll also get support from us that you won’t get from an insurance company, and it doesn’t cost you a penny. Read more below.
This leaves one remaining factor for our Medicare Plan F Reviews, which is customer service. Medicare Reviews on customer service is really what we are after, right?
Customer Service at the Big Insurance Companies
Where we DO see differences between insurance companies is in their customer service departments. There is no doubt that some insurance companies are easier to work with than others.
Let’s say your doctor submits a claim with an incorrect billing code and Medicare denies the claim. People generally want to know that the insurance company is easy to work with to solve the problem.
Fortunately, if you are a Boomer Benefits client, you don’t have to worry about the customer service ratings of the insurance company. That’s because you will rarely have to deal with the insurance company.
You’ll simply call here, and we provide all that support for free. And we are only agency like ours that has a full-time service team available to you like this.
Our service includes things like replacing lost ID cards or finding providers in your area who take Medicare. It also includes more serious things such as our help to file an appeal if Medicare denies one of your claims.
Service from Boomer Benefits Costs You Nothing
People who enroll directly with the carrier pay the same rate as our clients do, but they lose out on all the extra benefits like these that our agency provides. Why would you settle for less when you pay the exact same premium either way? Agents are paid a commission by the insurance company to provide you all these services. Your monthly premium already includes that commission. If you enroll directly with the insurance company, they just keep it. You pay it either way, so why give up all that free back-end support?
This is especially true of Part D policies. I wish I had a dollar for the hundreds of people who contact us every year asking if they can add us to their policy as their agent after the fact because they are so tired of trying to resolve a problem on their own.
Our clients are never on their own with Medicare. You can learn more about the benefit of our Client Service Team here. There’s a good reason we’ve received hundreds of 5-star reviews online, including Medicare Plan F reviews from hundreds of policyholders.
Visit the reviews page and you’ll find hundreds of testimonials from real clients about problems our Client Service Team has resolved for them – free of charge.
So I hope I’ve helped you see that I’m handing out A’s in the Medicare Plan F Reviews department because Medigap Plan F itself is just terrific all the way around. It’s the back-end policy support that makes all the difference.
